For 2019-20, the Presidents Groupings are as follows:

  • El/Mid: #1-17 (1-8 in the first round, 9-17 in the second round)
  • Jr/Sr: #1-17 in the first round, #16-33 in the second round

The Themes are all divisions will be Scandals, and Jr/Sr also plays Foreign Affairs.

  1. Although ill health during my childhood made formal schooling impossible, at age 20, I successfully passed the entrance requirements for the second-year class at the University of North Carolina.

  2. I was the first president to be served with a subpoena. I refused to make the court appearance that the legal paper ordered, but my refusal was never challenged in court. I said I was too busy to travel from Washington to Richmond to testify, but I did provide the documents the court was seeking and volunteered to be examined in Washington.

  3. While I was president, a huge Kansas posse, including Missouri “border ruffians,” swept into Lawrence, Kansas, with the intent of striking terror among the rising free-state population. Although no one was killed, homes and businesses were pillaged, and the story of the “Sack of Lawrence” ignited antislavery men across the North.

  4. I signed a bill authorizing the relocation of the nation’s capital from Philadelphia to Washington.

  5. My signing of the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850 quickly alienated many Whigs.

#16-33

  1. While I was president, Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act, one of the first attempts by the U.S. to regulate immigration along racial lines

  2. I grew up on a farm where I spent much of my childhood outdoors fishing and hunting. After graduating from college, I moved with my wife Caroline to Indianapolis where I passed the bar exam and became a lawyer.

  3. As a boy, I had poor eyesight. Once my family got me glasses, I read every book in the local library. I served more than four years as president. I issued an executive order desegregating the military.

  4. After my tumultuous presidency, I returned to my home state and remained active in the Democratic Party. I ran unsuccessfully in various congressional elections but was eventually elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the only former president to serve there.

  5. As a commissary sergeant at the Battle of Antietam, I bravely risked enemy fire to bring food and coffee to my comrades. After the war, I sought an Army career until my father told me he had “never thought that soldiers amounted to much in times of peace.”
